Security and access
Smart security system: alarm, cameras, access and faults
Less watching, more peace of mind.
The Security screen gathers modes, doors, cameras and faults in one place, so you get one picture instead of four apps.
In short
A smart security system is the alarm, the cameras, the locks and the fault sensors under one logic: it knows who is home, what is open and when motion last happened, and it acts on its own when there is a risk. HoumeOS keeps that logic on a local server, so the security does not stop when the internet fails and nobody outside can touch it.

Modes that mean something
The house has three states: Off, Home and Away. The difference is not only the siren: in Away the system waits for motion, in Home it watches the perimeter, and the indoor sensors do not raise an alarm while the family lives its evening.
- An entry delay, so you are not typing the code in a hurry
- One mode moves climate, blinds and security at the same time
- A mode change is written together with the profile that made it
Doors, windows and the garage
Contact sensors show what is open and since when. The garage door and the gate are measured by travel time, so a real opening can be told apart from a stalled motor.
- Unlock history per door and per hour
- A window forgotten open is visible on the lock screen
- Motion in night mode is a priority event, not a silent record
Cameras in the same screen
Cameras are not a separate app with another account. Each one keeps its last motion, its last frame and its journal, so a check takes ten seconds instead of minutes spent hunting for the recording.
Access, rights and audit
The PIN is verified on the server, not in the interface. Rights are set per screen and per command, critical actions require a second confirmation, and every attempt — successful or not — stays in the audit.
- Administrator, Household and Guest with different rights
- Double confirmation for things that cannot be undone
- Audit by profile, device, action and time
Emergency actions that do not wait for a person
Security in a house is mostly water and gas, not burglars. That is why the rules are protective and execute by themselves, and the alert asks for acknowledgement on the screen so a fault cannot go unnoticed.
- A confirmed leak — the main valve closes when all four conditions hold at once
- Gas or CO — the burner stops and ventilation is activated
- Smoke — the ventilation that would spread it is stopped
- Frost — the target jumps to 21 degrees so the pipes do not burst
What works today and what is coming
We do not present upcoming work as available. This list matches the roadmap.
Works today
- Modes Off, Home and Away with an entry delay
- Contacts, motion and unlock history
- Cameras: last motion, last frame and journal
- Protective rules for water, gas, CO and smoke
- Server alerts with acknowledgement on the screen
Coming soon
- Notifications to the phone — email, push and webhook channels
- NVR and doorbells with continuous recording — today there is a last frame, not a stream
- Temporary codes for guests and deliveries
Later
- Face recognition and behaviour anomalies
- Security for more than one property in one installation
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an alarm and a smart security system?
An alarm guards the perimeter and calls the owner when it is breached. A smart security system knows more context: who is home, which door is open, when motion last happened, and it binds that data to climate, blinds and energy. In HoumeOS both are on one screen and follow one logic on the server, instead of two disconnected applications.
Where are the recordings stored?
On your devices, not in our cloud. The cameras keep the recording themselves or in your NVR, and the platform keeps the metadata: when motion last happened, the last frame and the journal. No recording leaves your network and nothing requires a subscription to work.
Does security work without the internet?
Yes, and that is the point of a local system. Modes, rules, unlocking and emergency actions execute on the server in your network and continue during a total loss of connectivity. Without internet you lose only the remote view and the notifications to the phone, which arrive through separate channels.
How does the water close on a confirmed leak?
Only on confirmation, not at every mood of the sensor. The rule requires four conditions at once: a signal from the sensor, a consumption pattern, the state of the valve and the absence of an explanation such as an open garden tap. Then the main valve closes, the alert asks for acknowledgement on the screen and the whole event stays in the audit.
Is there access for guests?
Yes, as a separate profile with rights only for the screens it needs: climate, lighting, maybe the garage. A guest does not see the audit, cannot change rules and cannot switch the security off. Temporary codes with an expiry for deliveries and tenants are still in progress and we do not present them as ready.
