Climate and heating
Heat pump, heating and climate control room by room
Warm where you are, and only when you are.
The Climate screen speaks the language of rooms rather than the language of devices: temperature, target, mode and when it should happen.
In short
Heat pump control in a smart home means the system holds a target for every room, drops it at night and when nobody is home, and starts earlier so you do not wait. HoumeOS computes all of that on a local server: targets, schedules and rules stay inside the house and keep working without the internet.

Targets per room and schedules
Every room has its own target temperature and its own schedule. A schedule is not a separate system — it runs on the same automation engine, so a mode rule and a schedule never fight each other.
- A target for the room, a mode for the house, a setback when nobody is there
- Heating before you arrive instead of after you walk in
- A forecast value for tomorrow, so you see what it will be before you set it
- Underfloor heating starts earlier and with a smaller swing, because of the mass
Summer is the same screen
An air conditioner is one more actuator with a target and a mode, not a separate app. The summer logic is the same: hold the target, use the surplus from the roof, and do not load the battery when it is under its reserve.
- Cooling targets and a rest between the working hours
- Air conditioners as a flexible load inside the energy priority
- An open window stops the air conditioner so it does not cool the street
Automatic shading
Blinds have a position, not only up and down. The system knows the orientation of the window, watches the weather and the position of the sun and decides on its own: in summer it stops overheating before it starts, in winter it lets the sun help.
- Shading by sun and wind, computed on the server
- A position in percent, individual for every window
- A manual intervention always wins and is not overwritten immediately
Protective and emergency rules
Climate is also the place where safety matters more than savings. In frost the system raises the target to 21 degrees so the pipes cannot freeze — regardless of the mode and of whether anyone is home.
Where the saving becomes visible
Heating is the largest cost in a house for most of the year. That is why schedules, room targets and setbacks are reported on the Energy screen in money, under the day and night tariff, and not only in degrees.
What works today and what is coming
We do not present upcoming work as available. This list matches the roadmap.
Works today
- Rooms with target temperatures, modes and schedules
- Automatic shading by sun and wind on the server
- Frost protection rule with a 21 degree target
- Weather from a local station or by IP, with a forecast for tomorrow
Coming soon
- Modbus and BACnet drivers for heat pumps and climate modules
- Real room sensors — today the model and the simulation are ready, the devices are not
Later
- Floor plan with thermal zones
- Predictive heating from weather forecast and habits
Frequently asked questions
How is a heat pump controlled from a smart home?
Through a common device model: the heat pump has a target temperature, a mode and measurable feedback, and the system drives it by schedule and by rules. The logic sits on a local server, so the schedule holds even when the internet is down. Today the model, the targets and the schedules work; the driver for a specific brand comes with the integration on site.
What is a smart thermostat and what is the difference?
A smart thermostat is a single device for one appliance, usually for one zone, with its own app and often with a cloud. The difference with a system is scope: here the targets are per room, the rules share data from presence, windows, blinds and energy, and everything executes locally. A thermostat switches on and off; a system decides when and in which room.
Can the system switch the heating on in the cheaper hours?
Yes. Tariffs are part of the configuration, so the rules know when the day zone and when the night zone apply. Heating of the boiler and of the water circuit can be moved to the cheaper hour or to the hour of your own solar surplus, while the battery reserve is preserved. Every executed rule stays in the journal with an explanation of why it happened.
How does automatic shading work?
The server combines the orientation of the window, the hour, cloud cover, outdoor temperature and wind, and computes a blind position. In summer the shading arrives before the room overheats, in winter the sun is allowed in to warm the house. The position is in percent, it can be held manually and it is not overwritten immediately.
What hardware do I need to start?
For a demonstration, nothing: the system has a simulation mode over the real contract. For a property you need a small server on your network, a screen (wall panel or tablet) and the bridge to the devices — Modbus, KNX or MQTT depending on the installation. The concrete list comes with the survey and the measured proposal.
