HoumeOS for solar systems: monitoring and managing your own energy

The panels produce — the system decides where every kWh goes.

The page you start from if you already have or are installing solar and want to manage the energy, not just watch it.

In short

If you have a PV system, the question is not whether you produce, but where the energy goes. HoumeOS shows production, consumption, battery and grid as one flow with a clear priority: first the battery, then the boiler and flexible loads, then export. Self-consumption is measured in history and converted to currency on your tariff — never announced as a guaranteed percentage.

You produce — but where does the energy go?

Without management every surplus passes through the meter to the grid at a minimum price, and in the evening you buy the same energy back at full price. The point is not to produce more, but to keep and use what your roof already gives.

The flow on one screen: production, battery, consumption, grid

The Energy screen merges the four lines into one flow with a clear priority: battery → boiler → export. You see exactly how much goes to the house, how much is stored and how much leaves. Cost is calculated on day and night tariffs so you read currency, not just watts.

Self-consumption that is measured, not promised

We do not publish guaranteed savings. The platform reports real self-consumption in kWh and turns it into currency on your tariff, with 7 days of raw data, 31 days of events and 13 months of aggregations. The real result is a function of your roof, devices and habits, and it shows up in the data — not in a promise.

Battery, boiler and car in one priority

Surplus is distributed by rules that keep the battery above the configured reserve and only then let the boiler or EV charger take the rest. The decision is made on the server and holds even when no screen is on and the internet is down.

Honestly about the inverter integration

The flow logic, thresholds and cost-in-currency run today — in the finished UI and in simulation. The driver that reads production from your actual inverter over Modbus/TCP is the next step and we do not present it as ready. The specific model is confirmed on a site survey.

What works today and what is coming

We do not present upcoming work as available. This list matches the roadmap.

Works today

  • Production → battery → boiler → export flow with thresholds and hysteresis
  • Day/night tariff cost with a bill forecast
  • Charge protection: below reserve, flexible loads do not drain the battery
  • Local server: rules and history work even without internet

Coming soon

  • The driver that reads the actual inverter (Modbus/TCP) and switches the boiler contactor
  • The first real site with measured self-consumption in kWh

Later

  • Production forecast from weather data and automatic thresholds driven by it
  • Ready drivers for more inverter and meter brands

Frequently asked questions

Which inverters can I read today?

The integration panel today documents Modbus/TCP as a transport and gives a step-by-step guide with a reachability check on the address. The driver that reads the specific inverter’s registers is the next step and we do not present it as ready. For your brand we are prepared to co-write it with your installer if documentation exists.

Can you monitor an existing solar system?

Yes, without replacing the inverter. The plan is to read production and consumption and to control flexible loads by priority. You need access to the inverter’s data (typically Modbus/TCP) and a metering point for consumption — the specifics are confirmed on a site survey.

Will it raise my self-consumption?

The goal is to keep more of your own current, but we do not promise a fixed percentage. How much depends on the roof, battery, boiler and habits, and shows up in measured history after commissioning. The calculator gives an orientation model with explicit assumptions, not a guarantee.

Do I have to replace the inverter or the battery?

Not to start. HoumeOS does not replace your solar equipment; it manages it: reads production, tracks consumption and decides which load takes the surplus. Replacing the inverter or battery is discussed only if the existing protocol does not allow reading — and only after a site survey, not from a website.
